More Than Just Crime Scene Cleanup – Victims Resources

Mother-comforting-daughter2

Next week (April 19-25th) is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
According to the Office of Justice Programs website, this year’s theme is Engaging Communities, Empowering Victims – and emphasizes the role of the entire community, individually and collectively, to support victims of crime and empower them to direct their own recovery. Each and every day, Aftermath works with families who have experienced the unthinkable. Handling cleanup is just one part of what we do. To find out more about what we’re doing to help, be sure to read last week’s announcement.

Biohazard cleanup is one of many expenses a family can incur when dealing with the aftereffects of a crime. But did you know that there are state, local and national programs designed to help victims with expenses related to traumatic situations such as homicide and other forms of crime?

Almost all states have Victims Assistance Programs that provide social and sometimes financial aid to families who have experienced a loss. Some metro areas like New York have developed online systems for victims to make the claims process even easier. “Launching this new online system is an important step towards helping victims receive the compensation and the support they deserve,” said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in a recent press conference.

For those who live in smaller communities or who are simply confused about where to turn, there are several nationwide groups who assist with victims’ rights issues. For example, the National Center for Victims of Crime operates one of the most comprehensive online resources available, committed to helping victims of crime rebuild their lives. To learn what assistance may be available to you in your area, view their website. Similarly, the Office for Victims of Crime also offers resources, including lists of counselors, funding, and legal providers, to assist families in need, as well as helping those who provide services. This site also features a helpful map to services in your area.

No matter what your financial situation, Aftermath is dedicated to providing you with top quality crime scene cleanup services. As the only nationwide specialty biohazard cleaning service, Aftermath’s primary goal is to return your home to a safe, clean state by providing the most comprehensive, compassionate services available, while minimizing your out-of pocket expenses. If you are without insurance and unable to pay for cleanup in full, there are several options available to help you with the cost of services, including convenient repayment options.

Depending on your situation, financial assistance from Aftermath may also be possible if third-party funding (from home or life insurance, or victim compensation programs) is unavailable. Considerations for these programs are made on a case by case basis. Talk to your client services manager if you believe you qualify.
