In two days, Aftermath heads to New Orleans for the annual RIMS Conference!. The four day event features more than 160 sessions and workshops, plus amazing keynote speakers and an exhibit hall full of helpful, informative vendors like Aftermath Services.

According to the organization’s website, RIMS “is a global not-for-profit organization representing more than 3,500 industrial, service, nonprofit, charitable and government entities throughout the world.” RIMS was founded in 1950 and brings countless educational and professional opportunities to over 11,000 members in more than 60 countries.

So what’s in store for those attending RIMS this year? First and foremost, Aftermath will focus on PPE usage and training, inviting safety managers to determine if they are prepared in cases of injury or biohazardous waste. While much of the safety industry concentrates on reducing accidents in the workplace, Aftermath provides a solution for when they do happen.

In addition, due to a recent outbreak of Listeria, Aftermath predicts that attendees will be interested in discussing infectious disease and biohazard cleanup. In just the last week alone, famed ice cream makers Blue Bell Creamery and Jeni’s Ice Cream have ceased production on all products and closed doors on scoop shops nationwide, all in an effort to control this dangerous and often deadly bacteria.

Listeria is a bacteria found naturally in soil and water, and also in some animals. It can be present in raw milk and foods made from raw milk. It may also survive in food processing plants. What makes Listeria difficult to kill is its ability to survive in freezing temperatures; pasteurization, or thorough cooking, will destroy the bacteria. Listeria can lead to flu-like symptoms in many victims, but the mortality rate is over 30% in more vulnerable populations. Furthermore, the disease can be hard to trace; the subsequent illness can take over two months to incubate before symptoms appear.

Fortunately, Aftermath is equipped to handle outbreaks of Listeria and other bacteria. We’ve worked hundreds of cases involving infectious disease, including Salmonella, E. Coli, and C. Difficile.
