Aftermath Launches 5th Annual K-9 Grant
Will award $5,000 to the department or office with the most votes
AURORA, Ill. (September 30, 2016) – Aftermath is giving $5,000 to a law enforcement office to create or maintain a K9 unit, purchase safety equipment, or support officer training. Votes for the grant will be accepted online and by mail; the department with the most votes on October 31 will be awarded the grant.
“We partner year-round with law enforcement, so we see firsthand how important safety, training, and K9 units are to local communities,” said Doug Berto, CEO of Aftermath. “Aftermath started this grant five years ago as a way to support local law enforcement, and indirectly, to support the communities that we both serve. In the last two years, the grant has evolved – drawing in community members and providing them with a voice to support their local departments. With continued support, we hope that Aftermath’s K9 Grant will come to embody how business, government, and community come together.”
Voting opens on September 30 and runs through October 31. The winner will be announced on November 3. Any law enforcement office in the United States is eligible for nomination. Everyone, from officers to community members to local businesses, can vote once a day.
“This is a chance for everyone to really come together and drive participation, whether that’s through word of mouth or through social media,” said Berto.
Last year the award was given to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois. The department plans to use the grant to purchase an internal device to monitor the dog’s temperature, which sounds an alarm via mobile app when the dog overheats.
