Aftermath Visits the 2018 IDIAI Conference

In April, Patrick Leone, Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, shared his expertise on the topic of crime scene cleanup with local Illinois crime scene technicians, coroners, and affiliated officers and staff at the Illinois Division of the International Association for Identification (IDIAI) Conference, held at the Northern Illinois University Conference Center in Naperville.

This was Aftermath’s third year at the event. The NIU Conference Center is centrally located in the Chicago suburbs, just 15 minutes from Aftermath’s home office. Though the conference is small, IDIAI affords Aftermath an excellent opportunity to maintain local contacts by speaking directly to its members.

What is the IDIAI?

According to IDIAI website, “The Illinois Division of the International Association for Identification is a not-for-profit professional association for forensic scientists, investigators, crime scene investigators, evidence technicians, and others involved in the forensic investigation of crime. Our members come from law enforcement as well as the growing private sector. The IDIAI serves to further the profession of forensic identification and scientific crime detection by promoting research, scientific techniques, and standardization through training and communication.”

Continuing Relationships

“IDIAI is a very low key event,” explained Patrick. “Most members stay focused on the training opportunities and workshops offered by the organization. The majority of attendees are local, and head home each day after the event. I did meet at least one officer from downstate who had never heard of us, though. He was very interested in what we did, and we talked at length about other existing providers and how we can best assist his department and the families in his region.”

In the short breaks between seminars and workshops, Patrick passed out marketing materials and information to interested officers; he also raffled off a 5.11 tactical bag. The lucky winner was Dave Adams, an evidence technician with the Aurora Police Department.
