Aftermath Attends the 2017 International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference

On October 22nd, over 4500 police chiefs, lieutenants, sergeants, detectives, and other affiliated law enforcement gathered under one roof at the Center City Convention Center in Philadelphia for the 124th Annual International Chiefs of Police Association Conference. CSCU’s John Tyler was in attendance, and accompanying him was Aftermath’s Stephen Brown.

Gratitude for Work well done

While the sister companies have been regulars at the event for the past 15 years, most IACP members stopped by the booth to say hello and thank John and Stephen for their efforts to help both families and the police themselves. “We handle a lot of squad cars and jail cells, so many we talked with had great things to say, especially about our response time and the quality of our work. We have a great relationship with most of the attendees and they appreciated us supporting the event. One out of every five who stopped by the booth said we did work for them, and they expressed that they were very happy with our company and the services we provide.”

Another thing that made these convention goers happy were the great booth items Aftermath provided. John had this to say on the subject: “Our marketing giveaways were a big hit (water bottles, deodorizing sticks, pens, etc.). The tear-off cards were also in high demand. Many officers like to have them available to give to families when services are needed.”

All told, hundreds of visitors stopped by to speak to John and Stephen, and over 440 of the attendees entered to win a PPE kit and 5.11 tactical bag. The winner was Officer Michael Walton of the Philadelphia PD.

Ahead of His Game?

Amid all the traffic, however, one attendee stood out above the rest…and how could he not? Retired Lakers basketball great Shaquille O’Neal stopped by the booth! “He’s incredibly tall, which I knew, but I was still surprised,” said John. “I gave him an info packet about our company and chatted with him a bit.” O’Neal is already an honorary deputy in Clayton County, Georgia, but in 2020, he’ll be eyeing a much larger responsibility. He is currently considering a run for sheriff!

Though they had plenty of time to visit the vendor hall, attendees were mainly focused on business for much of the conference; as always, IACP offered a large number of workshops, seminars, and training sessions on a wide range of topics. Smaller focus groups and organizations also held meetings, but no single event had as great of a turn out as Chief’s Night, the IACP’s big reception. Held at the Reading Terminal, this gathering is always a big hit when the IACP comes to Philadelphia. Over 100 merchants offer diverse food and an array of products at the landmark building. It’s certainly worth a visit the next time you’re in Philly!

Time Flies!

We’re already gearing up for the big 125th Annual IACP Conference in Orlando, FL next year, but it’s just one of the many great shows we already have on our busy schedule!
