Last week marked the 59th Annual Texas Police Chiefs Association Annual Conference (TCPA), held in The Woodlands, TX. Aftermath’s Rolando Barrientez, Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations in the Southern Region, represented the company.
The Texas Police Association was formed in 1958, and is dedicated to promoting the professional development of all executive and management-level law enforcement personnel in Texas. Rolando stated that the conference gave vendors a great chance to network as well: “Many chiefs were from agencies I had spoken to in the past; they said they were glad to put a face to the name from the emails we send out. I actually spoke with officers who I have personally worked with or attended training with in the years past, during my active law enforcement and EMS career. It felt great, knowing that we remembered each other as professionals from the same field. Everyone I spoke with was engaging and insightful.”
He also described meeting chiefs who were unfamiliar with Aftermath: “I talked with numerous chiefs who said they do not have providers or know of any crime scene cleaners in their area. They asked about who pays for cleanup, and inquired about our experience with Texas Crime Victim Compensation. They were happy to hear that we service the entire state of Texas, with 5 teams ready to deploy to assist the families. They were also pleased to learn about our no obligation cost estimate.”
From police chiefs to patrol officers, over 500 members of law enforcement visited the two day conference. The President’s Reception and coffee breaks encouraged vendors and members to interact. Doing his part, Rolando made sure no one left the Aftermath booth empty handed. He passed out conference bags, as well as air fresheners, chap stick, carabiners and padded note pads. Captain Kirk W. Bonsal of Harris County Constable Presinct 3 won a $50 Visa gift card.
Other vendors marketed goods and services related to law enforcement. Uniforms, patrol car manufacturers, weapon dealers, and cyber security companies were among those assembled for the event. In addition, several charities and victims advocate groups also took part; these included the Texas Attorney General Crime Victims Office, the Special Olympics, and other LE-focused service groups.
The day before the event, the TPCA Foundation also hosted a golf outing, as well as a shoot out competition. Others took extra time to tour the beautiful Woodlands Riverwalk area.
As next year marks the organization’s 60th anniversary, Rolando pronounced the conference a must-visit. Texas is big on hospitality; the board and members of TPCA delivered!
