Aftermath Visits NC’s International Association for Identification Conference

Winner of PPE kit at Concord NCIAI Conf. 2017.

Aftermath returned to North Carolina last week for the North Carolina International Association for Identification Educational and Training Conference. Mike Webster, Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, represented the company. The NCIAI conference was equally as great as the last we attended in the state, but this time the weather was much more cooperative. The event was hosted at the beautiful Shell Island Resort in Wrightsville Beach, overlooking the Atlantic.

The three day event was very busy, attracting over 100 detectives, investigators, and forensic specialists from all around the state. Close to two dozen vendors were also on hand to offer information on goods and services. “Overall, we received an overwhelmingly positive response,” Mike said. “This is our fourth year at this particular show, and I was reminded yet again why we keep returning. Everyone I encountered, from the board members to attendees, was very personable and welcoming.”

About the NC International Association for Identification

The North Carolina Division of the International Association for Identification (IAI) was officially recognized by the parent organization in 1938, making it the third oldest state division. The IAI boasts members in all 50 states, and North Carolina continues to offer a top-notch conference experience.

The organization’s website describes the NCIAI as “…an academic association whose purpose is to associate persons engaged in the many fields of forensic science and criminal investigation. To assist in the education and standardization of scientific analysis and crime detection and to provide for those engaged in the field to meet, discuss, and stay abreast of changing methodology and technology.”

Around the Vendor’s Hall

Most NCIAI attendees came for the seminars and talks; the feature presentation was an insider’s perspective on the Scott Peterson case. Aphrodite Jones, crime reporter and best selling crime author, narrated the story. More low key networking activities included a local pub crawl, luau, and a wine and cheese social in the vendor’s area during the afternoon.

At the booth, Mike gave away a 5.11 tactical bag with PPE kit. The winner was Master Police Officer Chris Gorman of the Concord Police Department. He was also able to meet and speak with more than half of those at the event. Detectives who stopped by were interested to learn about Aftermath’s policies as well as the company’s locations. Questions concerning home insurance coverage and out of pocket costs were also addressed.
