Stopping in at the Maryland Chiefs of Police Conference

MCPA Conference Aftermath booth.

September 10th through the 14th, the Maryland Chiefs of Police & Sheriff’s Association met for it’s annual conference in Ocean City, Maryland. The event offered participants educational lectures and workshops, guest speakers, and plenty of networking opportunities. Mike Webster, Aftermath’s Senior Manager of Law Enforcement Relations, attended on behalf of the company.  “Our presence always elicits a great response with this group,” Mike stated. “I was already familiar with many of the attendees from previous conferences, but there were also a great deal of new faces in positions of leadership.”

What is the MCPA?

The Maryland Chiefs of Police Association was created in 1961. According to the organization’s website, its purpose is to promote and foster the enforcement of law and order; to increase the effectiveness of the police profession; to enhance public confidence in the police and improve the quality of life for the citizens served.

The Association is made up of executive law enforcement officers from state and local agencies, prosecutors and police legal advisors, trainers, and educators, and private sector security. Over 300 members visited the conference this year.

In Our second year

One of the major highlights of the MCPA was the awards ceremony and banquet for the Officers of the Year. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan presented the awards.

In addition to guest speakers and workshops, the event also featured numerous networking opportunities, including a vendor’s showcase. Mike Webster answered questions and shared information on biohazard cleanup. He also gave away Aftermath’s traditional booth prize: a signature 5.11 tactical bag and PPE kit. The winner was Corporal Onas Jansen of the Aberdeen Police Department.
