What is the K9 Grant?
The Aftermath K9 Grant was founded to showcase, support, and reward the unique contributions made by K9 units across the country and, indirectly, to recognize and support the communities that we both serve. The month-long contest awards $5,000 to a department’s K9 program for maintenance, safety equipment, or officer training. Officers and community members nominate and vote for local departments; the department with the most votes wins.
When can I enter?
The K9 Grant is held in the fall, and is a month-long contest. You may nominate and vote for departments anytime during the contest – vote early and often to win!
Who can enter?
Any K9 unit in the US is eligible for nomination. Everyone, from officers to community members to local businesses, can nominate their local department. Anyone can vote once per day for their favorite K9 unit. We encourage everyone to get involved!
And last year’s winner was?
More than 3,000 law enforcement organizations participated in last year’s K9 Grant, earning a combined 152,000 votes from officers and community members. The Alamogordo Police Department in New Mexico won the $5,000 grant and used it to build the city’s first K9 unit. Winning the K9 Grant was bittersweet for them, as the idea for the unit was introduced by Officer Clint Corvinus, who was tragically killed in the line of duty just a month before the competition. The K9 Grant brought much-needed funds and attention to their cause and it united local businesses and communities to realize their fallen officer’s dream.
In addition to Alamogordo Police Department, Aftermath also awarded smaller grants to Pekin PD and Matteson PD of Illinois, Johnson City Village PD of New York, and Larksville Boro PD of Pennsylvania.
