Case Studies of Jobs Performed in the San Jose, CA Area
(San Jose, CA) – When an Aftermath supervisor met with the owner of a San Jose, California property, the man explained that an altercation between a tenant and the police had led to the individual’s death. Working from clean to dirty, technicians remediated biological material from the hallway walls using the towel/bucket method, replacing the towels to avoid cross-contaminating clean areas. Moving to a large pool of fluid, a scraper was used to lift dried-on matter and the floor was wiped again.
Though the surface appeared clean, the floor was sprayed with a reacting agent to see if the blood had penetrated the surface of the wood. Because wood is a porous material, it can retain fluids as well as odors, which can lead to further contamination and long-term damage. In this case, a positive test determined that the wood could not be cleaned.
With the owner’s consent, the crew used a circular saw to extract the impacted area. Floorboards in a nearby closet also tested positive for bio and were removed. By strategizing the cleanup and using a variety of techniques at their disposal, Aftermath service technicians helped to assure the landlord that the unit was free from all biohazards and ready to remodel for future tenants.
